I wonder if part of it is due to upbringing. I used to have a terrible time apologizing for things, because when I was a child, I wasn't forgiven, so I didn't see the point.

I learned to divorce my ego from my actions, and now I apologize fairly easily (though obviously, I try not to have things to apologize for).
